The Slice of Americana Barbershop is Not Dead

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

-Take a ride with Sid Kali! “>The Slice of Americana barbershop is not dead. Through the course of my life I have had one main barber since my grandfather took me into the place when I was kid. It only has two chairs and the regulars are grandfathers, fathers, and sons that know who you are related to going back to the 40’s. The Slice of Americana barbershop is not dead in the era of fast and faster. Both barbers are over 65 years young and take their time to shoot the breeze, tell stories, and talk about life in general. It is not a rush cut. This week I was in the chair over an hour taking in life and getting a simple clipper cut.
This place always reminds to slow down and take time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life like good conversation and a haircut. Nobody is talking on the phone, texting, or checking emails when they come in the door and sit down. It is an unwritten rule that when your there for a haircut you leave that outside. Life slows down, which I like. Viewers that have watched the gangster film “In with Thieves” know the scene I wrote about talking on a phone when shopping. I get many great emails from people that love that scene because it has happened to them. A scene like that won’t ever happen in this barbershop.
As I am getting a neat trim (clipper #3 blended) a regular nicknamed Loco Lolo goes into a story about the night he got drunk on hobo juice, jumped a freight train from Texas to Los Angeles, and ended up getting shot by a zip gun over a woman. His real life snapshot was a true “Slice of Americana” from a man that has lived a hard life. Loco Lolo has a wicked sense of humor. After showing the scar from the belly shot he made a joke that the woman was not even fine, so he didn’t get why a man would be jealous enough to shoot over here. He only went back to her place because he had no money for a motel.
The events and people around inspire most of my writing and movies. I like to draw from real life energy and experiences that touch my life. Every script I write I strive to make it honest and accurate in depicting the subject matter. The language and images are not always politically correct, but it is based on the closest realism I can share with audiences. The people that have lived life on the fringe and have experienced harsh realities get a lot of the lines and scenes in my movies. Those viewers understand the differences between a studio budget film on urban life and a more organic approach.
Like any filmmaker I get my fair share of negative emails and posts on my movies over the content. I do appreciate constructive comments from viewers and make note of how I can improve a movie for the next time. Where I won’t change is censoring the language, even words that people find offensive. The street has its own language and rhythm that should be respected and shown with realism. I will always deliver that to movie audiences.
Financing for independent film projects has slowed down. While I wait for it to pick back up I have finally committed to writing a series of fiction books based on screenplays I have written. It is cool because usually scripts and movies are adapted from books. I am taking a different approach. The New Year will see Crazy Love Story, Stash Spot, and Elbow published. Watch Full Movies Online

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

When watching a movie, there’s nothing more frustrating than preparing yourself with a cold drink, laying out a platter of food and comfy position in your chair, only to be disrupted by a jumpy picture, or image quality so poor that it is difficult to even see what is happening in the film. As a film enthusiast, I find this to be a regular and unwelcome occurrence when I’m just trying to watch movies. Many people ask why I don’t simply buy and watch DVD’s, but having exhausted both my collection, and my bank balance, I’ve had to look further afield to find a way to find and see new films.
After deciding that I surely couldn’t be the only person experiencing this problem, I decided to look for others in the same situation. After doing a bit of research online, it was apparent that many are beginning to experience the frustration of trying to find decent full length films, in good quality.
After talking to a few people online, it was recommended to me that I take a look at a particular independent movie website. Finally my prayers had been answered! Not only did this site allow me to watch movies in full, but the picture was fantastic, and I no longer have to spend hours simply trying to find an entertaining film which I haven’t already seen.
The range of films available through this website are nothing short of excellent. There’s every type of film I could imagine, and lots more I wouldn’t even have thought to look for. Whatever mood I’m in, I know that I’ll be able to find a film which perfectly fits what I’m looking for. Whether it be animation, martial arts or sci-fi, this website lets me find exactly what I want, and offers a lot more as well.
It’s refreshing to be able to watch movies outside those which you’d see at the big screen. As all of the movies available on the site are independent, it means that I am able to view a wide and varied collection of amazing titles, and then even discuss them afterwards with other users.
Discovering this independent movie website has allowed me to join a whole new community, of which I’m thrilled to be a part of. I’m now able to sit down in peace and watch movies, without having to get wound up by terrible quality picture or another annoying issues I’ve had to tolerate on other film websites.

The New Polaroid 300 Camera

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Polaroid is not just a type of camera, it is a brand, a legend, a real power in the world of photography. The first commercially available model was the Polaroid Instant Camera 95, developed in 1947 and available to the public from November 1948. It revolutionized photography through its self-developing film, able to develop prints instantly. All you had to do was push a button, and within a few minutes you had your picture developed. A great acquisition is a Polaroid spectra film.
Nowadays, the main attraction in the world of photography are digital cameras, allowing you to take thousands of pictures digitally, and develop only the ones you like best. Along with these digital cameras, Polaroid cameras have registered a great decline in popularity. However, Polaroid decided to give it another shot, and now, the latest model of Polaroid camera is available on the market: the Polaroid 300 camera.
It entails the legendary instant color film technology, now able to develop pictures in 60 seconds. Still, as expected, the new model comes with a few changes in features. The opinions are divided, with many pro and numerous others con regarding the new Polaroid 300. The main issue with this model seems to be the size of the prints, which is now smaller than it used to. With Polaroid 300, the prints are about the size of a business card, 2.1 x 3.4 inches. While some find it amusing and great for small souvenirs, for others the reduced size consists a huge drawback.
The Polaroid 300 camera comes with a set of four AA batteries, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a wrist strap. It costs about $90, and a ten-pack of instant film costs $9.99. The camera is available in several colors, and you can find it at J&R, Bloomingdales or on the Internet, either on the Polaroid website or on numerous other sites.
Initially, Polaroid announced, in January 2010, that they plan to produce a new model of instant camera, the PIC 100. However, in April, they came with Polaroid 300, a completely different model. Basically, it is a rebranded version of the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S, using Fujifilm’s Instax Mini instant film. The Polaroid 300 did not have quite the desired impact on the market, and not all consumers are in favor of this new model. Divided opinions have generated hundreds of different reviews and feedback on this allegedly “new” Polaroid camera. If you search online for the Polaroid 300, you can find numerous positive and negative reviews, some of them with sample images as well. However, different preferences lead to different opinions, so if you really want to know how the Polaroid 300 really is, purchase one and write your own review.
